In 2010, the Huang Yi Studio was established, becoming the second full-time professional dance company in Taiwan after Cloud Gate, which was founded 40 years earlier.

“HUANG YI & KUKA” stands as one of the hallmark creations of the Huang Yi Studio, achieving numerous records since 2012. In 2013, it received an invitation from Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, often referred to as the “Oscar of the Technology Art World,” making Huang Yi the first Taiwanese artist to perform at its award ceremony. By 2015, it was selected as one of the 10 “Pitch New Works” of the year by the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA).

In 2017, Huang Yi was honored to open TED 2017, becoming the first Taiwanese to grace the TED stage. This performance was broadcasted to over 800 theaters worldwide via TED IMAX, with the video on TED’s official website attracting over 520,000 views and garnering coverage from international media, including CNN and Time Magazine.

“HUANG YI & KUKA” has been invited to perform in countries across the globe, including Austria, the United States, Switzerland, France, Australia, the Arab world, Singapore, Poland, South Korea, Canada, the Netherlands, and Hungary, touring 19 countries and 47 cities with a total of 109 performances to date.

In 2018, in collaboration with the Netherlands Chamber Choir and audio-visual artist Ryoichi Kurokawa, “Under the Horizon” premiered in the Netherlands and toured, concluding the 20th Taipei Arts Festival. This piece, exploring themes of war and refugees, demonstrates the extension of the author’s creative scope from personal expression to societal and human rights concerns. “Under the Horizon” also represents Taiwan’s most ambitious Interdisciplinary digital performance production to date.

2019 saw the premiere of “A Million Miles Away” on a 9-meter diameter revolving stage, interpreting the journey of life. This work was selected for the inaugural co-production project by the National Performing Arts Center, showcased at the National Theater in Taipei, the National Taichung Theater, and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts.

In 2011, upon the nomination by renowned dancer Hsu Fang-Yi, Huang was recognized by Dance Magazine as one of the “25 to Watch” globally. In 2014, the New York-based SOZO Artists agency extended an invitation, leading to Huang joining its roster of signed artists. That same year, he was invited by the National Theater & Concert Hall, becoming its first artist-in-residence. In 2018, he was invited for a residency at the National Theater of Chaillot in Paris. In 2019, he became the first artist-in-residence at the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan. By 2020, he had commenced a residency at the Taipei Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, and in 2022, established a creative base in Neihu, Taipei.

In 2023, Huang Yi, in collaboration with Taiwan’s esteemed calligrapher Tong Yang-Tze and Japanese audio-visual artist Ryoichi Kurokawa, presented “Ink,” which was met with acclaim from audiences and international curators alike.

That same year, significant international composer Dirk Harbrich composed music for a new project, marking a new phase in creative endeavors.

In 2024, “HUANG Yi & KUKA” reached the milestone of its 100th performance. For the 99th show, a special performance was held, inviting HUANG Yi’s esteemed teachers and mentors, as well as the companies and partners who have long supported Huang Yi Studio+, to share this special moment together.

In 2024, “Ink” was invited to perform at the Rose Theater at Lincoln Center in New York, USA, receiving high acclaim from international curators, critics, and audiences.

In 2025, “Ink” has been invited to perform at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in the USA, during the opening season of the Doris Duke Theater.

Since transitioning to a full-time formation in 2014, Huang Yi Studio has committed to a phased, high-standard production process for its creations. In recent years, “HUANG YI & KUKA,” “Under the Horizon,” “A Million Miles Away,” and “Ink” have been selected by the International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) as one of 10 “Pitch New Works” of the Year, Huang Yi is grateful for the recognition from ISPA over the years.

In 2022, Huang was admitted to the College of Management at National Taiwan University to pursue an EIMBA Master’s degree. He continues to apply his knowledge diligently, contributing to culture, art, technology, and equality with humility and dedication.
