This is a photo I revisit from time to time.
The scene in the photo seems like something out of a sci-fi movie. On the left is an orange industrial robot, and on the right, a boy holding a remote control, standing facing each other in the center of the warehouse.
In this warehouse, line by line, I completed the program with Kuka.
The warehouse is located on the top floor of the Kuka company. Every day, I carry a bag full of clothes to rehearsals. Because of the high temperature on the top floor, just sitting still is enough to make me sweat profusely. I usually wait until the clothes are completely soaked before changing, and throughout the day, I change several sets of clothes.
Even though the warehouse gets a bit hot, even though it takes me more than 10 hours to write one minute of Kuka’s movements, I have so much fun.
Although I often get stuck on almost imperceptible details for days, once it’s completed, I feel very moved.
The premiere of “Huang Yi & Kuka” was in 2012, 11 years ago. We’ve toured together in 19 countries, 36 cities, accumulating 88 performances. We are returning to my hometown, “Chiayi,” on January 6, 2024, and it holds a special meaning for us.
Through this journey back to Chiayi, I’ll take the chance to reflect on the stories from the journey so far and share them with our good friends and new friends who have accompanied us along the way.
